Trooper Hayes was a member of the 20^th Recruit Training Troop, graduating on September 4^th, 1928. He was assigned to Troop B. On February 9^th, 1940, Trooper Hayes was operating a vehicle on Dwight Street, in the city of Holyoke. Near the intersection of Faille Avenue, he was struck head on by another vehicle. He was rushed to the Providence hospital, where he died several hours later.
