August 18, 1994 Trooper Whiting died on August 18th, 1994 as a result of a cruiser accident on Rte. 128 in Lexington. He was operating cruiser 567 northbound in the high speed lane, when a van driven southbound by a Nynex employee jumped the median guard rail and crushed the State Police cruiser. The accident occurred during a heavy downpour, when the van apparently lost control on the wet road surface and crossed the three southbound lanes of traffic before jumping the median. Trooper Whiting was a member of the 70th Recruit Training Troop, which was the first class to train at the new facility in New Braintree and graduated on October 17th, 1992. He was a member of Troop C and stationed at the Leominster Barracks. |
